Radical Rest

“If Black women were free, it would mean that everyone else would have to be free since our freedom would necessitate the destruction of all the systems of oppression.”

— The Combahee River Collective

My Mental Health Matters.

I desire to model a world where decolonial mental health, self actualization via community care and rest outweigh our need to perform and produce. I want the collective to see that Freedom work is truly healing work. For us to normalize that caring for our self is the political warfare that does not leave us mentally depleted.

The past six years have been challenging and inspiring. In a world driven by relentless capitalistic consumption, I know i that my work isn't measured by productivity or possessions. Overworking and the constant pressure to perform has   lead me to burnout and a disconnection from self and my work.

I am resilient AND desire Rest. So can YOU.

I am soft AND desire Pleasure So can YOU.

I can be benevolent AND desire Joy. So can YOU.

Today,  I am manifesting rest, softness, and boundaries. I am taking time away to write, find my center and take care of my mental health. I hope you do the same.

My Rest Matters.

I am Black and beautiful. Like you, my life has been full of nuance and trauma, and as an ode to Langston Hughes’s “Mother to Son,” we can say “My life isn’t no crystal stair.”
